Objective This paper aims to investigate the dynamic response characteristics of an integrated semi-submersible wind turbine and aquaculture cage structure under wave and wind actions.
Methods A fully coupled “platform-net-mooring” numerical model is developed for a 5 MW wind turbine based on potential flow theory and the Morison equation. The effects of mesh size and wave parameters on motion response, mooring tension and power generation are systematically analyzed.
Results The results show that the net acts as an additional damping element and can effectively suppress structural motion. The novel platform suppresses motion response and increases the aquaculture water volume. Under irregular waves, the motion response is sensitive to wave height and period, while the wind turbine output power remains stable. Under irregular waves, the mooring tension increases significantly as sea conditions worsen, and low-frequency energy concentration is observed, indicating that slow-drift forces cannot be neglected.
Conclusions The integrated structure shows good environmental adaptability and power generation stability, and the proposed system is feasible.
