Objectives The main structure of a submarine is a ring-stiffened cylindrical shell. At present, most research into the effects of ribs on the acoustic radiation characteristics of cylindrical shells is concentrated on middle and low frequencies, but the acoustic vibration problems involve a wider frequency range.
Methods By using statistical energy analysis, we can study the effects of ribs on the acoustic radiation characteristics of a cylindrical shell in a wider frequency range. The changes in the SEA parameters induced by ribs are analyzed and the influence of different rib parameters on the radiation noise of a double cylindrical shell are studied. Then, the difference of ring-stiffened cylindrical shell caused by excitation force acting on different positions is studied.
Results The variation rule of SEA parameters and radiation noise in the range 500 Hz~100 kHz of double cylindrical shell influenced by ribs is obtained.
Conclusions The findings in this study can provide valuable references for reducing the radiation of submarines through the proper use of ribs.
