Crashworthiness of Double Hull Structures Impacted by Buffer and Rigid Bows

Abstract
The dynamic response of double hull structures collided by buffer and rigid bows was carried out by LS_DYNA. A full ship was modeled in the finite element analysis. The influence of added mass on the dynamic response of hull structure was considered. The curves of collision force vs. penetration, energy vs. penetration, and absorbed energy in components of ship structures were presented. The results show that the energy absorption of ship side collided by buffer bow is larger than that by rigid bow.
